I hope you’ve had a great week! While Sunday’s Grey Cup game didn’t go as hoped, congratulations to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on a great season. Thank you for making our city proud. Congratulations to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on your Grey Cup victory.
Congratulations as well to the members of Canada’s new Cabinet. I look forward to seeing the progress that you are able to make in the 43rd Parliament. Congratulations in particular to the Honourable Filomena Tassi, MP for Hamilton West – Ancaster – Dundas who was appointed as Canada’s Minister of Labour.
In the past few weeks, Members of Parliament have been consulting with and listening to their constituents to learn more about their priorities for the upcoming session of Parliament. One issue in particular that I’ve been hearing a lot about is climate change and the environment.
I can assure you that our government knows that you can’t have a plan for the economy without a plan for the environment. During our first term in office, we invested in projects that will mean cleaner air for everyone, while creating good jobs and new opportunities for communities across the country. We’ll be continuing much of this work, with our new Infrastructure Minister Catherine McKenna making green infrastructure a priority.
During the upcoming sitting of Parliament, we also look forward to working with the other parties to deliver real climate action. The Prime Minister has sat down with each of the opposition leaders to discuss how we can work together on this issue.
Standing up Against Gender-Based Violence
No one should face violence or discrimination because of who they are. This past Monday, on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, Canadians took time to reflect on the work we can do to eliminate gender-based violence in our society. We also took time to honour the survivors, the advocates, and all of the organizations in our communities who work hard every day to address this issue.
Returning to Parliament
On Thursday next week, Members of Parliament will take their seats again in the House of Commons. I look forward to returning to Ottawa to be Hamilton East – Stoney Creek’s voice in Parliament. In the meantime, if you have any questions, thoughts, or suggestions that you would like to bring to my attention, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
I hope you have a great weekend and a great start to the month of December!
