It’s been busy these last two weeks in Hamilton East – Stoney Creek, but I’ve heard a lot about how Hamiltonians feel about the direction the government is going in. I look forward to sharing these concerns with my counterparts in Ottawa when I return later this month.
Before I return to Ottawa, I would like to get an idea of the issues that you would like our government to focus on during the fall sitting of the House of Commons. Please note that all responses are anonymous and that I take the feedback I receive here seriously.
Out of the following issues, which would you like our government to focus on the most in the fall of 2018?
(A) Negotiating a strong NAFTA deal with the US
(B) Jobs and the Economy
(C) Doing More to Support Seniors
(D) Reducing Poverty
(E) Protecting the Environment
(F) Making Prescription Medications More Affordable
(G) Crime Reduction
(H) Addressing the Challenges posed by Asylum Claimants
Thanks for your feedback!
A great weekend at Peach Fest!
I had a great time at the Winona Peach Festival this past weekend! Thank you so much to everyone who stopped by my booth to chat and let me know how you’re feeling about the direction our country is heading. I’ll be sure to bring your feedback with me to Ottawa when I return in just a few short weeks.
132 pounds of food raised for the Hamilton Food Share!
Just over four weeks ago I held a free community barbecue at the Hamilton Beach Rescue Unit. Thanks to the support of so many hardworking Hamiltonians, we were able to raise 132 pounds of food for the Hamilton Food Share. Thank you to everyone who was generous enough to provide a food donation to support those who have nowhere else to turn to feed their families.
Happy back to school!
I also know that back-to-school can be a challenging time for some families, given the cost of school supplies and new clothes for the kids. Our government has thankfully made some changes to support middle-class families and families who find it difficult to make ends meet.
The Canada Child Benefit provides tax-free benefits to families who need it. In the riding of Hamilton East–Stoney Creek there were a total of 9418 payments benefiting 16,582 children in July 2018 alone. The average payment was $639.72. That’s more than $6 million being invested into our local economy in Hamilton East – Stoney Creek in July 2018 alone.
